University of Manchester Aikido Society
Take-part Demo 30th September 2009, 6:15pm
The University of Manchester Aikido Club is a registered society of The University of Manchester Students' Union and part of the Sport Development Programme. The club is affiliated to The Mason Street Aikido Dojo. The club has been running since 1988 and has seen many students through from beginner to black belt over the years.
Aikido is renowned as a non-aggressive and yet effective martial art, which is reflected by a non-competitive and friendly training atmosphere. As well as improving balance, posture, and co-ordination, Aikido also develops inner qualities such as awareness and calmness; useful self-defence for getting through exams! As a society we practise and promote Aikido, and we organise various socials throughout the year. The society is run by students only, but everyone is welcome to join the Aikido classes and come along to the socials.
Classes
Wednesday 6.15pm - 8.15pm
During term time we run an Aikido class at the Sugden Sports Centre, on Wednesdays 6:15pm-8:15pm, which is open to everyone and especially suited to beginners. Just come along to any of the Aikido classes and see what we do, or even better, have a go straightaway - just wear a loose fitting t-shirt and tracksuit trousers. If you want to practise more than once a week there are regular classes at The Mason Street Dojo in central Manchester.
If you have further questions, do not hesitate to contact us by email, have a look at our group on Facebook, or just turn up to the next class...
